The brake rotors are a crucial part of the braking system. When you step on the brake pedal, the brake fluid transfers and amplifies the force of your press on the brake pedal, causing the brake calipers to tighten. The brake pads are attached to these calipers, and the brake pad lining presses against the rotors, slowing your vehicle down or bringing it to a complete stop. The brake pad lining is softer than the rotors, which means that brake pads will need to be replaced much sooner than the rotors. However, the rotors may wear down eventually. They may experience glazing or warping, in which case they will need to be resurfaced or replaced.
